Fresh Arrivals This Week: Hydrangeas, Hardy Outdoor Ferns and Acers

This week at the nursery, we have some beautiful new plants arriving that are perfect for adding colour, structure and long-lasting interest to your garden.

Whether you are refreshing a border, creating a shaded corner, or looking for a standout feature plant, our latest arrivals offer something for every garden style.

Hydrangeas: Big Colour and Beautiful Blooms

Hydrangeas are a garden favourite for good reason. Their large, showy flower heads bring instant impact, with colours ranging from soft pinks and blues to fresh whites and rich purples.

They are perfect for borders, patio pots or cottage-style planting schemes. Hydrangeas also work beautifully as statement plants near entrances, seating areas or pathways.

Most hydrangeas enjoy a sheltered position with moist, well-drained soil. They are especially useful for bringing colour to areas of the garden that receive morning sun and afternoon shade.

Hardy Outdoor Ferns: Texture, Shade and Year-Round Interest

For those trickier shaded spots, hardy outdoor ferns are a fantastic choice.

Their soft, architectural foliage adds texture and movement to the garden, making them ideal for woodland-style borders, shady corners, under trees, or beside pathways. Ferns also pair beautifully with hostas, hellebores, heucheras and other shade-loving plants.

Hardy ferns are generally low-maintenance once established and can help create a calm, natural feel in the garden. They are a great option if you want greenery without relying only on flowering plants.

Acers: Elegant Foliage and Seasonal Colour

Acers are one of the most elegant plants you can add to a garden. Known for their delicate leaves and striking seasonal colour, they make beautiful feature plants in borders, courtyards and containers.

Their foliage can range from fresh green to deep red, purple and fiery autumn tones, depending on the variety. Acers are especially effective in sheltered positions where they are protected from strong winds.

They prefer moist, well-drained soil and often do well in partial shade. In pots, they can create a stunning focal point on patios, near doorways, or in smaller gardens where space is limited.
